The Avengers: Age of Ulton - A Roster of Heroes

2015 just cannot come quick enough. The Avengers: Age of Ultron is just one of the many big name films coming out that it has become almost the biggest year of film release ever, at least in recent memory. With the success of the first Avengers film, it is probably the one with the biggest hype around it.
There has been a huge amount of speculation about cast members, the villain and the story (among other things) but here I want to discuss the actually Avengers themselves, what we can hope for from each of them and what will there role be in, and also, coming out of The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

To kick things off, I'll start with Iron Man, obviously one of, if not the main character in The Avengers at the moment. Tony Stark's involvement in Age of Ultron, in most people's view, will begin in the creation of Ultron himself. Since Ant Man will not be in the movie, Stark is a clear back up choice to create the villain (I will talk about Ultron and his possible origins in a later blog but I want to focus on the Avengers for now). After the events of Iron Man 3, Stark has apparently hung up Iron Man, so I could see him being approached by SHIELD or someone in the team for help. Stark will decline, Ultron will then come into play and he will have to become Iron Man again in order to help the team and put his own creation down. This will probably lead to Stark blaming himself and then a possible breakdown which is something Tony Stark has been known for and that would explain no Iron Man 4 (story wise).
Like I mentioned, I would like to see a possible breakdown from Iron Man, but also for him to step up more, to come to the fore to put right the mistakes he made. Since we know that Robert Downey Jr. will only be in the Avengers 2 and 3, there needs to be some kind of story leading from this movie into the 3rd to give a farewell to the character (at least until they find a new actor) and a mental breakdown could be just the thing we need.

Next up I'll talk about Captain America. I feel Cap never got to shine in the first Avengers movie compared to other characters like Iron Man or the Hulk. With Robert Downey Jr. is going to be stepping away from Iron Man, Chris Evans needs his character to really step forward and take the lead in Age of Ultron. Cap's should be the figure head of the Avengers, like he is in the comics. With the threat of Ultron, I could see there being some even more tension between the team than the first movie, especially with there being more characters. Cap would be the one to focus the team and ultimately lead them head on against Ultron.
Coming out of the movie, Captain America should be seen as a much more influential character than he appeared in the first. Those people who only know Cap from the movies don't look at him as such an amazing character compared to some of the others. This needs to be changed, he needs to be shown as the real leader, the one who the rest of the team trust and that if he was not there, the team would start to fall apart. Captain America is the heart of the Avengers and that's what needs to be established.

Thor is a similar to Captain America, not pushed as much as I would have liked in the first film. He is one of the most powerful heroes in all the Marvel universe, but he was definitely overshadowed by the Hulk. Thor position in this movie will probably be very simple, he will be the hammer to go up against Ultron. I would see him being more pivotal to the story if Thanos was involved, but Ultron is such a powerful character that they need the big guns to really put in some work on the front line along with the Hulk. He cannot beat Ultron alone, but he will be seen as the biggest threat, as he should be.
The movie needs to establish his power on a grander scale compared to the first. I think that they used him being stabbed by Loki early in the Battle for New York in order to hold  him back, but he needs to be let loose, let him show us his full power.

The Incredible Hulk is an interesting character in that we will probably not have seen him since the first Avengers except right at the end of Iron Man 3, if that even counts. Bruce Banner may actually be a part of the Ultron origin, which is something no one has really talked about. Banner and the Hulk will probably have different roles. As I mentioned Banner may be involved in Ultron, but he will probably a little more involved in find a weakness in Ultron, but that would depend on the Hulk's role. If the Hulk is in control, if he is directing it towards Ultron, then Banner will have a larger role. But we may see a Hulk lose control more for most of the movie, possibly due in some part to Ultron.
Hulk is the strongest there is. All they need to do with him is show that. It may be difficult to fully show both the full power of both Thor and Hulk, but if Hulk is out for whatever reason then Thor can be the muscle for the majority of the game and have Hulk come and help finish Ultron off at the end. I would like to see more of the struggle between the Hulk and Banner, since he seemed to have more control over Hulk by the end of the Avengers and if they show some of the monster in Hulk it may lead to a "World War Hulk" sort of movie in the future.

Black Widow is one of the characters who have the potential to be killed off. As much as I would like to see a 20 hero roster, its not possible paying all those actors big bucks so with at least 2 new Avengers in the movie (which I will talk about) there are rumours someone will be going. Widow had a lot of screen time and character development in the first movie, they don't need to do much with her and I hope they don't. She should just be part of the team, fighting alongside Cap and maybe have some stealth section where Widow is infiltrating some area while evading Ultron, anything else is overkill.
Since Widow is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we will have a more clear idea of where her character is going after that. But if anything, I hope to see her combat skills fleshed out more, other than that her character is basically set at this point and does not need a lot more attention.

Clint Barton is one of my favourite comic book characters out there, so I have big hopes for Hawkeye in Age of Ultron. In the first movie he was being controlled by Loki for large parts of it but his role in this should a main part of the team, as he is in the comics. He is another candidate for being killed off, which I would find very sad but I think it is more likely than Black Widow (they could do both but I don't see them doing that). Joss Whedon has said he is enjoying writing Hawkeye, so I hope to see more of his humour shine, as well as show more of him in combat this time around.
Hawkeye is one the leaders of the Avengers in the comics, but putting him in that position seem very unlikely as he does not have his own movie and the have both Iron Man and Captain America already in that position. I honestly see them killing him off, since he has died (more than once) in the comics, but then who hasn't died in Marvel at this point. If they are going to kill him, it may actually be a good thing for the character because in order to get a response from the audience from his death, we need to see more of him. See him cracking jokes, flirting with some chicks and kick some ass, which are all things I would love to see him do. So if they are killing him off, I hope they give him the send off Clint Barton deserves.

Now for the new additions to the team, Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch. It is possible we may have the Falcon here too but right now I think that's too many, but if Captain America: The Winter Soldier changes my mind on this I will talk about it after that.

I love these 2 characters being added to the team. Quicksilver is such a cool character and having someone with super speed integrating with others in large scale battles in something we have never really seen before on the big screen. Pietro is someone who could become something of a fan favourite if done properly. Since Age of Ultron will be the first time we are seeing both him and his sister, I don't think they will have a huge role story wise in this movie, but may in the 3rd. Show us him being awesome, that's all we really need right now. They can do a little character development stuff but with so many people in the movie, trying to do more than that will take way too long. Make us want more of Quicksilver, deal with the other characters first. He can important when it comes to using his speed in important situations to save the team and take down Ultron, shows us his personality, leave us wanting more.

Wanda is very similar to Quicksilver in what we need to see from her. Powers, kick ass, personality and leave us wanting more. Pretty simple. However the Scarlett Witch is anything but simple. She is unstable, she is one of the most powerful people in the galaxy. That is if they give use her reality controlling powers from the comics. She has had multiple iterations of her powers however and its possible that due the sheer scale of the movie already, with so much to show and explain, having her powers fully fleshed out may be too much at this point. They may decide to reduce her powers for now, and crank them up in later movies. Which I am fine with. The most important thing they need to show (along with what I mentioned) is the fact she can be both mentally and physically unstable since that is such a huge part of her character. They may not decide to use her in that way, but it will be a opportunity missed of they don't as they can build on her for years to come

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are great characters to add and I can't wait to see them, especially since adding them gives huge possibilities for the future when Marvel FINALLY gets the rights to the X-Men (and Spiderman) back. They will be great additions to the team. Age of Ultron is probably my most anticipated movie ever, and I know I have mentioned a lot of things I would like to see them do without even talking about Ultron himself. If they can manage even half of it, I will be satisfied. The Avengers team is growing, and with every member added, the scale of the movies can increase and I hope they continue long into the future.

Avengers Assemble

This is simply an introduction to this blog for those who are interested or come across the blog at a later date.

I have been interested in comic books for most of my life, Marvel mostly but I am interested in others as well. Combine my interest in comics and a passion for movies, and you have a combination made in heaven. Comic book movies have become a passion of mine and with Marvel creating their "cinematic universe" I have more and more engrossed in the stories being told.

I have so many topics I can talk about, theories to explore and films/programs to review that just telling a couple of friends or people at work is not enough for me any more. So I'm doing this. I plan to blog about all the Marvel films being released (including those franchises owned by Sony and FOX), previews, speculation, reviews etc. Other comic book related movies or comics themselves may some appearances (especially with DC building to The Justice League).

So if these are things you would like to read about, this is the place for you. If anyone ever wants to know my opinion on something feel free to ask, I will either reply or if I feel it is a broad enough topic I will post something new on the subject. I hope you enjoy.
